WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Darline Graham (R-South Carolina) today demonstrated her commitment to South Carolina veterans by co-sponsoring the Major Richard Star Act.
This landmark legislation supports service members who were required to medically retire as a result of combat-related disabilities before reaching 20 years of service. Currently, nearly 60,000 veterans that fall under this category are ineligible to collect their total benefits. If enacted, the Major Richard Star Act would permit these American heroes to receive both their full retirement compensation as well as VA disability compensation.
“The many freedoms that South Carolinians enjoy are only possible thanks to the brave patriots who answer the call to defend our nation. When our men and women in uniform return home, we owe it to them to honor their sacrifice. The fact that many of our service members injured in the line of duty are barred from receiving their full benefits is frankly unacceptable. The Major Richard Star Act rectifies this wrong, and I’m proud to support it,” said Senator Darline Graham.
