Internships are an excellent opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in politics or government. Our interns help staff with a variety of duties, including handling mail, answering phones, compiling research, attending committee hearings, and gathering news clippings.

An internship in my office offers students firsthand experience working in the U.S. Senate and provides insight into how a Senate office supports both the state and the Senator. In addition to the duties listed above, interns are encouraged to participate in educational opportunities available in Congress and Washington, D.C.

I offer internships during the fall (September-December), spring (January-May), and then through the summer. My office typically offers multiple 4-weeek sessions in the summer. The deadlines for submitting applications are listed below, but we encourage applicants to submit materials as soon as possible as interviews are conducted on a rolling basis.

• Summer Sessions – March 1st
• Fall Semester – August 1st
• Spring Semester – November 1st

These are full-time internships, and interns are responsible for their own housing. Additionally, my intern coordinator is willing to work with college professors and students to design a specific internship that will fit both the office’s and the students’ needs.
